A slim candle-style wall sconce in solid brass. A small round backplate with two side screws holds a thin round arm that drops from the bottom, makes one tight U-shaped curve and rises straight up beside the plate into a tall cylindrical candle sleeve. A small flame-shaped bulb sits on top, so the sconce reads like a single candle on the wall.

Hang a pair either side of a bathroom mirror, or use them beside a bed or along a hallway. Choose unlacquered brass, which arrives bright and develops a natural patina over time; brushed brass, with a softer matte look; or oil rubbed bronze, a dark protective finish that keeps its look.

Care and patina

Unlacquered brass is a living finish: dust with a soft dry cloth and polish it to keep it bright, or leave it to darken naturally. Brushed brass and oil rubbed bronze only need a soft dry cloth. Avoid harsh cleaners and abrasive pads on every finish. See our Care and Patina Guide for the full routine.

Choosing a size. Pick the diameter in the selector above. As a rough guide, an 8 to 12 in shade suits a small island, a bedside or a breakfast nook, 14 to 18 in suits a standard island or dining table, and 22 in works as a single centrepiece over a large table.

Kitchen islands: hang two or three pendants evenly spaced, with the bottom of each shade about 30 to 36 in above the counter.
Dining tables: hang the bottom of the shade about 30 to 34 in above the tabletop, and choose a shade about half to two thirds of the table width.
Cord length: measure from the ceiling to where you want the bottom of the shade, then choose the next cord length up.

Every shade is shaped and hammered by hand in our workshop in Fes, Morocco, a city where coppersmiths have worked the metal for centuries. Small variations in the hammer marks and patina are what make each piece one of a kind.

Will the colour change over time?
Raw copper and brass develop a living patina that deepens and warms. Oxidized and bronze finishes already look aged and change more slowly.

Do I need an electrician?
